ABOUT IHF

Indonesia Heritage Foundation or Yayasan Badan Wakaf Warisan Nilai Luhur Indonesia, is a nonprofit organization initiated by Dr. Ratna Megawangi and Dr. Sofyan Djalil in June 2000 (legally formalized by the public notary in September 2001 No. 578/ANP/2001).

The establishment of IHF is a result of our concerns about Indonesia's societal problems today which is threatened by a cultural decline unprecedented in the nation's history. The presence of corrupt culture (shown by government officials, politicians, and other segments of population), the declining of work ethics, aspirations towards consumptive orientation, inter-ethnic conflicts, juvenile delinquency, is parts of the declining of societal moral characters.

Indonesia Heritage Foundation has developed a model of comprehensive approach of character education for preschool and elementary school setting. An important foundation for children involves the development of character traits which includes in 9 pillars of character. Character development training should begin early in a child's life and be an on-going process. School is a cultural organization that could support children's development in human virtues. Many studies reveal that children who have attended preschool equipped with explicit social emotional learning program, reveal better performance in their academic skills, social and emotional skills, creativity, initiative, and motivation to study (Zins et. al., 2001).
